Sande Ace Rendezvous 2018

Seven boats cruised Hood Canal to the Waali place.
Five Aces were in the water along with a Lady Clipper Dart and an Anthony.

Ace Day Begins at Twanoh

This is indeed a boat website but vintage Mercury outboards are important parts of the Sande Ace story.   The Sandes equipped most of their Aces with four-cylinder Mercs and these are the restoration motors of choice for many of us.  The Cloud Whites hold a special place in our hearts.

The couple hours spent at the Twanoh State Park parking lot are especially fun.  You can really look over the boats and motors when they are on trailers.  And people will drop by with boats and motors even though they won't be cruising.

Have we seen enough of the old Mercs yet?
 Heck no!

Barney's 12-foot, open cockpit Sande Ace, a Bob restoration, with a Merc 500.

The Baker-Johnson's new-built 13-foot Ace with its 40HP Tohatsu.

John brought his Anthony with Merc 115.

Ned's Sande Ace has been a fixture at Ace Day since 2005, here with its 1961 Merc 500.

Bob with his Sande Ace, one of the four he has restored, with its Merc 500.

This is now Dean's Sande Ace, another of Bob's restorations, with a Mark 58A.

As usual, the Waali Sande Ace was already in the water of beautiful Hood Canal.

Tracy's beautiful Pacific Mariner Stiletto and Merc 800.

Dave's rare Lady Clipper Dart, beautifully restored with its 1959 Mark 35A.

Dean draws a crowd.

"I love the smell of 2-cycle in the morning!"
Waiting for more to launch.

Zack, Ed's grandson, is a member of the 4th generation
to take the helm of the Waali 1959 Sande Ace.

Ending Up on the Waali Beach.

The spark for Ned's Merc 500 was questionable so he chose to trailer it
to the Waali backyard.  Solid state ignition is planned for next year!

Lunch overlooking these great boats.

Barney gets ready to return to Twanoh in his 12-foot open cockpit Sande Ace.

Bob tilts his motor up for more speed but the prop can ventilate when getting up on a plane.
Leaning forward helps to get the bow down and the Ace on a plane.

The Hagans do their Dart fly-by on the way back to Twanoh, zipping past the Waali Ace at buoy.

Jack takes the Baker-Johnson Ace past the Waali boat.
