Sande Ace Home Page

Sande Ace Movies

This page is devoted to movies - a few old, most new.   The Sande Ace is featured but other classic Northwest plywood runabouts such as Steve Tweit's Tacoma-built Mansfield will be included.

(Lower resolution, faster loading options are provided for many.   Some have been captured from analog tapes and are fuzzy.   In any case, they are well worth the wait even with long downloading times!)

New
Rendezvous 2011

Tom Regan took these movies at the Twanoh dock and from his Ace Scooter at the 2011 Ace Rendezvous on Hood Canal.  It was a little choppy.  If you want to see the Aces in action on glassy smooth water, check out the 2008 movies below.

Ed's one-pull start.

Ed heads back to Twanoh with tools.  He likes the smoother, less-porpoising ride when the motor is on the first tilt hole even though he loses some speed.
25.0 MB  or  9.4 MB.

Bob and Roy start their Aces.  Then, Roy puts in the plug.  Just kidding, he's checking the speedometer pitot tube.
42.0 MB  or  7.5 MB.

Ned with Roy and Bob head to the Waali place.
23.8 MB  or  9.9 MB.

Ned and Bob show the time-honored technique for getting an Ace up on a plane.  In the old days, the passenger might have been sprawled across the forward deck when starting a slalom skier from a deep water start!
24.6 MB  or  6.5 MB.

Rendezvous 2008

These movies were taken from the Regan's Ace in 2008.  Great shots Susanne!  We gathered at Twanoh State Park, crusied to Alderbrook Resort and returned to the Waali place via the North Shore.  The water looks like liquid mercury, appropriate considering the old Mercs in use!
Some of the files are large but hang in there for the download and join us for the cruise.

The Need for Speed

Here's Linda at the helm on Hood Canal.  She punches the throttle about half-way through the video clip.  What fun!

Bob Parks' Classic Movies

Here is the Parks' 1957 Sande Ace at Nelson's Cove on Bald Point of Hood Canal.   Bob converted his grandmother's movies to digital format. They are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.   (Note: These have no audio.)

Sande Ace Race 2005

The first gathering of Sande Aces in recent times occurred in the summer of 2005 on Hood Canal. Ned and Ed raced their boats, each equipped with a 45 HP Cloud White Merc. Ned (closer to the camera) clearly won the first Ace Race in 30 years or more.
