The Motor
To power the Ace, I had John Meyers, Seattle outboard racer of note rebuild a 1963 Mercury 500 for me. All I will say is that it sounds nasty, but runs exceedingly well. Having been in contact with Ned and Ed, and knowing the great need to have more than one motor, I soon found myself with three motors. Oddly enough, I found another 1963 Mercury 500 that had never been apart and was a freshwater motor. This motor was delivered to John Meyers and he worked his magic on it as well. Now that I have a backup motor for the first motor, I felt the need for backup for the backup. It is a 1959 Mark 58A...untouched as of yet.
It's a beaut.
These pictures show the second Merc 500 being cleaned and the newly painted upper cowling.
