Sande Ace Rendezvous 2013

The ninth annual Sande Ace Rendezvous was held on Hood Canal in late July.  We met again at the Twanoh State Park boat launch but ended up at the Alderbrook Resort for lunch and a display of the boats instead of the Waali place on Sisters' Point.

Allan and Bea Sande came with family to the ramp and the resort.  Time at the launching ramp is special because you can take time to closely inspect the boats while they are on trailers.

The Waali Ace had been in the water at their place so they just cruised to the Twanoh dock in the morning.

The six Aces tied last year's record for the number in the water on Ace Day.

Tom Twiss and Allan go over the changes made in the Twiss' Sande Ace.

Allan meets Barney McPhillips over Bob Parks' Ace.

Allan talks with Bob and Ned Hamlin about Barney's 1956 12-foot, open cockpit Sande Ace.

Ned talks to Allan about his restoration.

Toms Regan and Twiss with the Grapeview Ace.

Ned shows Bob how he measures tire pressure.

The Twanoh park ranger opened the side lot so the Aces could park together.

Tom takes a picture of his Ace with the perfect background...3 more Sande Aces!

The Waali Ace had been in the water for three days and was waiting for company at the Twanoh dock.

Getting ready to go.  The blue haze in this and the next picture is due to Ed's idling Merc 450.
He, like many, still uses the 24:1 gas:oil mix originally recommended!

The Rendezvous was actually the sea trial for Barney's Sande Ace.  Bob Parks started the rebuild in April and finished it in time for the Rendezvous!  Click here to see Bob's work on this 12-footer.

Ed and Linda throw some spray towards Tom Regan taking the picture.
They both like the smoother ride when the motor is on the first tilt hole but the bow-down position splashes a lot more.

The six Aces cruised the Canal and ended up at Alderbrook Resort
for lunch and a couple hours of display at their dock.

Cindy, the Alderbrook dockmaster, wanted some action so Ned took his Ace out for a spin.

A great day for Barney and his "new" Sande Ace.  You can only lounge like that in an open cockpit model!

Cindy was very helpful in reserving our dock space at Alderbrook.

Cheers!

The above table in Alderbrook's Wine Room was maxed
so Bob and his friend, Bob Campbell, volunteered for a table nearby.
