Sande Ace Rendezvous 2015

This was the 11th Sande Ace Rendezvous and 11 Aces showed up at Twanoh State Park on lower Hood Canal.  This time with the boats still on trailers is especially nice since you can really look over the boats and motors.  In addition to the Aces, there was a wonderfully bright aluminum Feather Craft with a Mercury Super Hurricane 10 motor.  A Lady Clipper Dart, a Trumbly runabout and a vintage inboard brought the total to 15 at our "Twanoh Boat Show."  Seven of these went on the cruise around the Canal ending up at the Waali place.

Getting together at Twanoh State Park.

Some of the line up at Twanoh State Park.

Ned, a founding member of the Sande Ace Rendezvous, brought his Ace as usual.

Bob's Sande Ace, one of four that he has rebuilt.

Roy's Sande Ace, a Bob Parks rebuild.

Mark Ormiston's family had a Sande Ace at their place on Hood Canal when he was young.  He looked for another for many years
and finally connected with this one, another Bob Parks rebuild!  We love these old stories.

Barney had his 12-foot open cockpit Sande Ace ready to go.  Yet another Bob Parks rebuild!!

Dan Poole ran this Sande Ace in the waters around Treasure Island when he was a kid.

Tom and Susanne's Scooter.

Dallas' Sande Ace was not quite ready to hit the water this year.

Bruce Landram restored this 12-foot Ace which was built in Idaho from the original plans.

The Baker-Johnson Ace ready to go!

The Whitney's Ace has the most beautiful finish we have ever seen.  It will soon have an equally pretty Bimini Blue Mark 58A.

Mike W. brought his Trumbly runabout built on Raft Island.

Dallas brought his beautiful Feather Craft with it's Super Hurricane 10!

Dave H's Lady Clipper Dart with its Mark 35A.

The Waali's Sande Ace didn't get in the water because of a too-tight travel schedule but we have to show it anyway.
Ed is the "Son" on the sign that was put up on Waali's Grocery when he was born in 1944!

Linda with the Baker-Johnsons.

The Ormistons waiting for the rest.

Barney is getting ready to cruise.

The Lady Clipper Dart.

Ned and Dave showing how we used boat cushions back in the day.
Lean back on them to sit lower in the boat and look much cooler!

Vintage Mercury Motors Galore!

Mark 30,  Mark 58A,  Mark 35A

Merc 500,  Mark 35A,  Merc 400

Three Merc 500s from various years.

The Baker-Johnson's 40-HP Tohatsu.  One might ask "Why not an old white Merc?"  There have been problems in years past with white Mercs that wouldn't start and....uh....that little fire last year so this might have been an excellent choice!

First a Super Hurricane 10 on the aluminum Feather Craft shown above.
The second is not from the movie Mad Max.  The cowling covers a 40-HP Merc!
The third is the 4-cylinder Crosley engine which came in a classic inboard with V-drive.

A hint of something to come. Here's the top hat of a Bimini Blue Mark 58A which will be put together soon.

Cruising Hood Canal.

The Regans and Ned underway.

Jack at the helm of the beautiful, newly constructed Baker-Johnson 13-foot Ace!

The Regans in their very fast Ace, Scooter.  We always wonder what's really under the hood, Tom!

A couple of photos of Roy and Tel zipping by.

Barney speeds off in his 12-foot open cockpit Sande Ace.

Ned and Dave.

The Hagans fly by in their great Lady Clipper Dart.

Bob loads up on lunch. That's salmon and tuna caught by Earl Sande. Thanks, Earl!

The food was great but Ned received something much better....the famous Sande Ace name plate that Earl gave him.
